Maxi's The Bridge Is Getting Into The Christmas Spirit

Johannesburg, 17 November 2008,The Bridge is getting into the spirit of giving this festive season, proving that their hands and hearts reach all the way from Midrand to the orphaned HIV positive children at the Centurion Hospice.

Ravi Moopen, owner of Maxi's The Bridge, believes that it's important to give back to the community and this year Ravi and his staff decided to put some smiles on the faces of children that need it most. "Many of us look for ways to reach out to children in an effort to make their Christmas season a little brighter, this is our way of touching the hearts of children this festive season," says Ravi.

Maxi's The Bridge spread their Christmas love on the 14th of November and invited the Centurion Hospice children to The Bridge for a Maxi's treat. The 25 children were all served a meal and cool drink with balloons and Maxi's colouring in apron and chefs hat. They want to bring back hope to these kids and remind them what Christmas is all about.

Ravi entered the food franchise industry in October 2000 with the purchase of the Bridge site and never looked back. Maxi's is known for their exceptional quality, freshly prepared foods and more than just a meal. "Maxi's is a family brand and we wanted to make sure that the children at The Midrand HIV Hospice were included this Christmas," concludes Ravi.

The commitment to this initiative has positioned Maxi's The Bridge in the hearts of these children and assured that a lot more cheer is being handed out to children that need it.

Maxi's Does Their Bit On Youth Day

Johannesburg, 17 June 2008,Maxi's got into the youthful spirit of June 16th Youth Day 2008, by becoming involved with the COACH (Coalition of Anglican Children's Homes) fun day.

"Youth Day is always a celebration at Maxi's, after all the children are every bit as important to us as our older customers," says Christo Calitz, Managing Director of Maxi's.

COACH hosted a fun day for the children from St Nicolas and St. Joseph's homes and children from the early intervention programme. These children, aged from 5 to 15 years, participated in a poetry and poster competition as well as in various dramas and dances. As part of their involvement, Maxi's donated their tasty trademarked burgers, chips and lucky packets for all 40 children on the day.

"Youth day is such an important day on the calendar and this year we were very proud to contribute in a small way by bringing smiles to the faces of some of South Africa's children," says Christo.

COACH provides residential care and community development programs. In addition they deliver programs that build the capacity of affected settlements and communities to care for children who have been orphaned or whose families are in crisis. Another aspect of the work is to help establish pre-schools that provides places of safety for young children and offers quality education to help them develop the skills that will help them succeed. In a year COACH reaches more than 2000 people.

Maxi's is a family restaurant that serves a wide range of tasty and wholesome meals. Combined with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, they deliver outstanding, freshly prepared foods of the best quality. Maxi's has a special Mini Maxi kiddies menu, the meals are served on funky kiddies plates and kiddies birthday parties are available for their younger customers. More importantly Maxi's and their franchisees are always on the look out for ways to get involved in their local communities and in outreach programs.

Christo concludes, "We believe in the future of a positive South Africa and a big part of that future is the youth of this country. We need to keep that in mind not only on Youth Day but every single day of the year. We at Maxi's hope you had as great a Youth Day, just as we did."

Maxi's Aids In Fund Raising Event

Johannesburg, May 2008, The Round Table recently congratulated Maxi's for their help in raising funds for the Childrens Home in Krugersdorp:

We would like to take this opportunity to give you a follow up to the games evening that we held.

Recently we held the games evening. We managed to raise R39 000 which will be used to purchase a chicken coop for a childrens home in the Krugersdorp area called Botsablo. This project will not only enable to feed the children, but in the long term it will start to pay off as they will be able to sell the eggs and start making an income for the home.

Without companies likes yours we would not have been able to do this, and we cannot thank you enough. We will keep you followed up as to the construction of the chicken coop and how the progress goes.

Thanks so much again for all your help with the prizes that you donated to help us make such a huge difference. We hope that we can count on your support for next year when we look at running another one of these games evenings.

Maxi's Eastgate Shavathon

Johannesburg, 15 February 2008,Maxi's Restaurants, through their Eastgate branch, got into the spirit of things this past weekend by taking part in the CANSA Shavathon.

Maxi's Eastgate did their bit by providing the 50 CANSA volunteers at Eastgate Mall with food and cool drinks throughout the day. Maxi's head office staff were also at the centre, showing their support by colouring and shaving their hair. "This is a very worthy cause and we applaud CANSA for coming up with and rolling out this initiative every year. We'd also like to thank all the Maxi's customers who also got involved and shaved or coloured their hair," concludes Christo.

Teddy Bear Clinic

As part of the launch of the kiddies party packs, Maxi's got together with the Teddy Bear Clinic over the weekend to throw a party for these very special children. The Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children was initiated in 1986 and provides both medical and short term counselling services to sexually abused children and their families.

"It was a great opportunity to get involved with such a worthy cause," says Amy Menzies, Brand Manager of Maxi's. "To see those kid's faces light up and be able to be a part of that is what our kiddies packs and parties are all about."

The birthday party was held in celebration of one of the children, who turned 10 years old in the beginning of October. However it felt like everybody's birthday, as all the children were given chef's hats and aprons, Maxi's party packs as well as a special gift and plenty of sweets! The Teddy Bear Clinic also got a gift of their own, a R2000 cheque from Maxi's in support of this worthy cause.

Youth Day Activities with Maxi's

Johannesburg, 15 June 2007, Maxi's Restaurants have once again proved their commitment to the youth of this country by getting involved in local Youth Day activities.

The Maxi's in Lake Umuzi Mall, Secunda, showed their youthfulness when they decided to get involved in the second annual Highveld Youth Festival by providing complimentary meals to 200 children. The festival is held in aid of raising funds for the S.A.V.F, Famsa, S.P.C.A and Noise Youth Outreach.

As part of the festival children from various homes in the area, including Loeries, Kriel and Volkstrust, were invited to join in on this year's festivities. The fair included stalls, a fun walk, a volleyball competition and a Miss & Mr Highveld competition in which the children took part in.

"We were approached by the festival organisers and based on the success of last year's festival we know that we wanted to get involved right away," says Christo Calitz, Managing Director of Maxi's Restaurants. "We spoke to our franchisee in Secunda and he was just as excited as we were to get involved in the festivities and to make a difference."

Which is exactly what Maxi's did; thanks to their assistance the festival was able to increase the number of children invited to 200, as well as provide them with a Maxi's tasty kiddies' meal and toy.

"Youth day is such an important day on the calendar and this year we were very proud to contribute in a small way by bringing smiles to the faces of some of South Africa's children," says Christo. "And those smiles that we saw were bright enough to light up our restaurant."

Maxi's is a family restaurant that serves a wide range of tasty and wholesome meals. Combined with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, they deliver outstanding, freshly prepared foods of the best quality. More importantly Maxi's and their franchisees are always on the look out for ways to get involved in their local communities and in outreach programs.

Christo concluded, "We believe in the future of a positive South Africa and a big part of that future is the youth of this country. We need to keep that in mind not only on Youth Day but every single day of the year. We here at Maxi's hope you had as great a Youth Day, just as we did."

Maxi's involved with Pledge-Athon

Johannesburg, 2 August 2007, Once again Maxi's Restaurants have put their support where their heart is by getting involved in a pledge-athon to raise awareness and funds for the homeless.

Maxi's Rosebank offered their services in helping to host the Radio 2000 Plight of the Homeless Pledge-athon that took place on the 27th July at the Mall of Rosebank. The aim of the pledge-athon was to encourage the local community and corporate South Africa to get involved and just to help 1 person - that's all it takes to make a difference.

"As soon as Radio 2000 approached us with the concept behind the pledge-athon, we immediately knew that it was something we wanted to be involved in," says Johan Roelofse, co-owner of Maxi's Rosebank. "Since the broadcast was taking place at Rosebank, it was the perfect opportunity for us to step in and offer our services and assistance in anyway possible."

The pledge-athon was run on the 27th of July from 6am. The aim of the Plight of the Homeless campaign was to donate financially towards the 35 shelters nationally as selected by Radio 2000. All the funds raised will be used to assist various shelters on a national basis with their basic upkeep e.g. equipment, renovations etc. that shelters are in dire need of.

"The pledge-athon was well attended and went a long way to creating awareness about the initiative," says Willie Horn, co-owner of Maxi's Rosebank.

"One of the most important factors in the success of our campaign was the willingness and eager participation by corporates and individuals," says Thelma Chetty, Station Manager of Radio 2000.

As part of their donation to the fundraiser, Maxi's kept the radio DJs and other guests well fed as they encouraged Radio 2000 listeners and mall goers to donate to such a worthy cause. The Maxi's franchise donated R5000 towards the pledge-athon and challenged all other food outlets at the Mall of Rosebank to match or better the pledge.

Showing their support for the pledge-athon, was Mr. K. Legoro, Gauteng MEC of Social Development as well as the HOD of the Dept. of Social Development, Mr. Bheki Sibeko who addressed all those present at the pledge-athon breakfast about what the department is currently doing in terms of contributions to shelter, children's homes, and orphanages.

Johan concluded, "We believe in the future of a positive South Africa which means involving and enriching the lives of every South African. We believe an event like this goes a long way to achieve that goal. We certainly hope that there will be more opportunities for Maxi's restaurants to get involved in initiatives such as this."
