Maxi's was founded in Pretoria in 1993, by an entrepreneur who saw an
opportunity in the market for a family restaurant franchise, offering a
wider range of food and focusing on a quality offering.
In April 2005 Maxi's was acquired by Scooters Pizza (Pty) Ltd with 28
outlets. Maxi's, Scooters Pizza and Natal Wholesale Jewellers operate under the holding company Taste Holdings Ltd, an Alt X listed company.
Since April 2005 the Maxi's chain has grown to 70 outlets. Maxi's became a member of the Franchise Association of South Africa in June 2006 and was a finalist at the FASA awards for Brand Builder of the Year and Franchisor of the Year in 2009.
In March 2008 Maxi's acquired 6 BJ's franchise agreements located in Caltex service station forecourts on national routes within South
Africa. During the period 1 September to 25 November 2008 the Maxi's franchise converted The Bridge in Midrand, Ventersburg, Bloemfontein,
Harrismith East, Harrismith West and Polokwane into Maxi's restaurants.
Some of these sites have already doubled their turnover since conversion. Further Maxi's sites at Caltex service stations include Ladysmith, Kimberly, Kuruman and Potchefstroom with more planned for 2010.
